From the outside, it might be difficult to define Juggalo. After all, if you don't really know anything about what they stand for or anything about horror rap, then you're really starting from scratch, and that's never the best way define something, especially when defining Juggalos.
You'd define Juggalos by what they wear, any visible hatchetman tattoos, and probably the amount of Faygo they're seen consuming. But, how long would it be until you got to the root of defining why Juggalos are the way they are? To be clear, I mean how long would it take you before you realized that defining Juggalos accurately requires first answering, "What is ICP?"
Many don't need to ask "What is ICP" because the horror rap group has reached such saturation in the media in recent years. However, for those who do find themselves asking "What is ICP?" on a regular basis, allow me to answer that question in a sentence: ICP stands for Insane Clown Posse, a horror rap duo made up of Violent J and 2 Dope that is from Detroit and that's career spans more than 20 years.
Now that that's out of the way, moving onto the task of defining Juggalos becomes a whole lot easier, and it should be obvious that there's more to Juggalos than ICP. Yes, an interest in figuring out the answer to "What is ICP" is what brought most of them together in the first place, but the bond between Juggalos and how they define other Juggalos goes much deeper than that.
On your quest to discover more about the question, "What is ICP" and to further define Juggalos and Juggalettes you'll learn many things, but one characteristic is more important than any other: Juggalos define each other as family. Yes, they all appreciate horror rap, Faygo, know exactly just what is ICP, but the deepest bond amongst these horror rap enthusiasts is that they all consider themselves misfits from larger society.
This shared feeling of being ostracized amongst Juggalos is the chief method they use to define other Juggalos. If you feel like you don't fit in, then you meet criteria number one for Juggaolos defining you as one of their own. And soon after you're welcomed in, you won't need to ask yourself "What is ICP?" much longer.
The easiest way to prove that Juggalos define each other by this characteristic can be found in the lyrics of the horror rap music itself. Horror rap clearly has themes that are meant to, well, horrify, but horror rap is not that one-dimensional. Additionally, horror rap leaks into the romantic field as well, believe it or not, in terms of heartbreak and the reactions that follow.
